This morning, Buddy has no new open wounds, and his old ones are scabbed. The treatment: fly spray @ dawn and dusk without fail for the past two days. His sweet feed has been reduced, and daily in-hand exercise begun.
After Canon’s in hand walk this morning, Hope came out with me. It’s been obvious that she wants to come out, but when faced with voluntarily letting the halter be put on her, she would back away. For the past two days I have offered it to her about three times, and if she backed away, I said cheerily, “That’s okay, we’ll try again tomorrow.” This would not have worked as an approach if she had not wanted to come out for a walk! Today, she let me put it on her, and we walked around and up and down the driveway part way, and went to see the pond (which is just right there next to the barn). Canon became a little agitated while she was out with me, so I took her in and out of his sight, letting him self-calm before bringing him back where he could see her. We did some trotting in hand, and even with Canon calling her, she stayed on task and in position. Whew.
I am feeling a lot more positive today!
